Company overview
Late-Stage Oncology Developer
Moleculin Biotech develops therapies for difficult-to-treat cancers and viral diseases. Its lead program, Annamycin/naxtarubicin, is an anthracycline designed to avoid multidrug-resistance mechanisms and reduce the cardiotoxicity associated with conventional anthracyclines.
Differentiated Anthracycline Design
Annamycin is intended to retain antitumor activity in settings where resistance limits conventional anthracyclines. Its development strategy combines this differentiated drug profile with cytarabine in AML and explores additional applications in metastatic solid tumors.
Annamycin and AnnAraC
The pivotal MIRACLE study is evaluating Annamycin in combination with cytarabine, known as AnnAraC, in relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia. An interim analysis of the first 45 patients in Part A showed higher complete response and composite complete response rates in both Annamycin dose groups than in the HiDAC control arm.
Soft Tissue Sarcoma Program
Annamycin is also being developed for lung metastases from soft tissue sarcoma. This program tests whether the asset’s anthracycline profile can provide activity in a solid-tumor setting with substantial prior treatment exposure.
Earlier-Stage Pipeline
Additional programs include WP1066 and WP1122 for brain tumors, pancreatic cancer, other malignancies, and potential viral indications. These assets provide pipeline breadth beyond the company’s lead Annamycin franchise.
Future catalysts
Enrollment will continue in Part A of the pivotal Phase 2/3 MIRACLE trial toward its target of 90 patients, supporting selection of the optimal Annamycin dose.
Planned follow-up analyses from MIRACLE will inform the registrational path and future FDA interactions for AnnAraC in relapsed or refractory AML.
